Nephilim

👁️ The Nephilim: The Forgotten Giants, the Fallen Watchers, and What Christians Should Know

Throughout history, there have been whispers of a powerful race that once walked the Earth — giants, known in ancient scripture as the Nephilim. Mentioned briefly in the Bible but found throughout ancient texts and mythologies, these beings have puzzled theologians, historians, and seekers of truth for centuries.

Who were they? Why were they wiped out?
And what does their existence mean for us today?

📜 What the Bible Says: A Brief Overview

The Nephilim are first mentioned in the Book of Genesis:

“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them.”
(Genesis 6:4, NIV)

Here, "sons of God" is a key phrase that many scholars and early Jewish and Christian traditions interpret as fallen angels — not human men, as some modern interpretations suggest.

👼 The Watchers: Fallen Angels Who Left Heaven

The Book of 1 Enoch (an ancient Jewish text not included in the modern Bible but referenced in early Christian writings) expands heavily on Genesis 6.

It introduces a group of angels called the Watchers, who were sent to watch over humanity. However, these angels lusted after human women, rebelled against God, and descended to Earth:

“And they took wives for themselves, and everyone chose for himself one each, and they began to go in to them and defile themselves… They taught them charms and spells, and showed them the cutting of roots and trees.”
(1 Enoch 7:1-2)

Their offspring? The Nephilim — part-human, part-angelic hybrids, described as giants, violent and corrupt.

⚔️ Why Were They Destroyed?

According to both Genesis and 1 Enoch, the Nephilim corrupted the Earth. Their massive size and unnatural nature brought violence, sorcery, and forbidden knowledge into the human world.

God responded with the Great Flood — not just to punish mankind, but to wipe out the Nephilim and cleanse the Earth.

This matches Genesis 6:5-7, where God regrets creating man and decides to bring the flood.

💭 Did the Nephilim Return After the Flood?

Interestingly, the Bible says:

“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days — and also afterward...”
(Genesis 6:4)

This suggests that even after the flood, traces of Nephilim bloodlines remained. In the book of Numbers, we see this when the Israelites spy on the land of Canaan:

“We saw the Nephilim there... We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
(Numbers 13:33)

This passage implies the giants survived, or that their bloodlines continued through tribes like the Anakim, Rephaim, and Amorites.

✝️ Christian Perspectives: Who Are the Nephilim, Really?

Most traditional Christians follow one of two interpretations:

1. Sons of God = Fallen Angels (Supernatural View)

  • Supported by early church fathers like Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, and Tertullian

  • Aligns with 1 Enoch, Jubilees, and early Jewish traditions

  • Suggests that Nephilim were hybrid offspring of angels and humans

  • Seen as part of Satan’s plan to corrupt humanity’s bloodline before Christ

2. Sons of God = Godly Men (Natural View)

  • A more modern interpretation

  • Says “sons of God” refers to the descendants of Seth (the godly line)

  • Daughters of men = Cain’s descendants

  • This view rejects the supernatural interpretation but doesn’t account for the giants

🧬 Are They Still Among Us?

Some believe that remnants of Nephilim still exist today:

  • In secret bloodlines of global elites

  • Through ancient giants and megalithic structures (like Baalbek, Gobekli Tepe, and the Pyramids)

  • Or as spiritual forces influencing humanity

Others connect the Nephilim to end-time prophecy, referencing Matthew 24:37:

“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.”

Could this mean that a return of the Nephilim-like corruption is part of what we should watch for in the last days?

🧠 Final Thoughts: Why This Matters

The Nephilim aren’t just ancient mythology — they reveal a deeper spiritual war that stretches from the beginning of time to now. Understanding them helps us grasp:

  • The rebellion of spiritual beings

  • The true reason behind the flood

  • The ongoing corruption of humanity

  • And the real nature of spiritual warfare today

This is one of those hidden truths buried in scripture — rarely preached, often dismissed, but crucial to understanding the battle between good and evil.

If we’re going to see the world clearly… we have to start with what’s been left out of the story.
